Ford Offers Job Loss Protection While GM Offers Sweetened Total Confidence Program

Both Ford and GM have announced new programs in hopes of encourage consumers to enter into the car buying market. Within each program both Ford and GM will offer protection to the consumer if they were to lose their job. That means Ford or GM will pick up the payments for a specified amount of time for those who are in the position to qualify for unemployment benefits. The programs are similar to that of Hyundai’s Assurance Program but the terms are even better than Hyundai’s.

Ford offers a new Job Loss Protection that covers payments of up to $700 a month for up to 12 months on any new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle if the new purchaser/loan holder loses his or her job.

The GM plan, called the Total Confidence Program, is a combination of a few deal sweetening features. Gm will offer the payment protection program but theirs will consist of covering you for 24 months after the purchase of a new GM vehicle where they will make up to nine payments valued up to $500 a month. Basically, if you qualify for unemployment benefits, you qualify for the program. In addition to the payment protection, included in GM’s Total Confidence Program is one year of OnStar and the 5-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

GM’s new Total Confidence plan actually begins on April Fool’s Day, April 1st and will continue until April 30, 2009 with a slight possibility of being extended if it “works”. Meaning, if sales go up as a result of this new program then GM will be extending for additional time.

Ford has not released many details other than their new program will take place immediately and run through June 1st. Ford has said buyers can also take advantage of zero percent financing offers through Ford Motor Credit for qualified buyers.

Obama Says U.S. Will Guarantee GM, Chrysler Warranties

Today is my “what to do in case of Automotive Industry emergency” news day. All of the major news networks are steadily reporting today updates of the Obama administration’s plans for the automotive industry. It seems they already want federally regulate everything else so why not do it with the Automotive industry. I mean, heck, they already gave Rick Wagoner, GM’s CEO, the boot and now they will guarantee the federal government paying for any warranty repairs on a General Motors or Chrysler vehicle if either company can’t because of financial problems or a bankruptcy filing. That’s actually good news now that I think about it because all my neighbor has to say about his Chevy Tahoe other than it is gas guzzler is that GM may not be able to fulfill their 100,000 mile warranty if they go under.

This has been the topic of discussion for thousands who happen to drive a GM or Chrysler vehicle currently. Many of these cars are still under warranty considering the 100,000 mile warranty offered in the past couple of years by both GM and Chrysler.

“Given where the industry is, these highly unprecedented actions are consistent with the unprecedented times we’re in,” Standard & Poor’s analyst Robert Schulz told Reuters today.

Let’s face it, bankruptcy is a very feasible option for Chrysler and GM and many are finally realizing this. We all knew it may come to this. I guess for now it is good that the government and/or Obama administration is on our side… or are they?

GM CEO Rick Wagoner Calls It Quits

General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner will step down from his position immediately as recently reported by various news associations. This comes about maybe as a slight surprise on the eve of President Barack Obama’s expected announcement of a deadline for Chrysler and General Motors to finalize their terms for restructuring or deciding on a Chapter 11 bankruptcy package.

As the economy shows no apparent signs of improvement except for the recent stock market rallies the auto industry continues to suffer and look for some type of outlet. The outlet for Rick Wagoner was specifically requested by the Obama administration.

Rick Wagoner spent 32 years with GM and in part over-seeing the operations of General Motors all through its better days and recent slump.

GM Message from Rick Wagoner

On Friday I was in Washington for a meeting with Administration officials. In the course of that meeting, they requested that I “step aside” as CEO of GM, and so I have.

Fritz Henderson is an excellent choice to be the next CEO of GM. Having worked closely with Fritz for many years, I know that he is the ideal person to lead the company through the completion of our restructuring efforts. His knowledge of the global industry and the company are exceptional, and he has the intellect, energy, and support among GM’ers worldwide to succeed. I wish him well, and I stand ready to support him, and interim Non-Executive Chairman Kent Kresa, in every way possible.

I also want to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who supported GM and me during my time as CEO. I deeply appreciate the excellent counsel and commitment of the GM Board and the strong support of our many partners including our terrific dealers, suppliers, and community leaders. I am grateful as well to the union leaders with whom I have had the chance to work closely to implement numerous tough but necessary restructuring agreements.

Most important of all I want to express my deepest appreciation to the extraordinary team of GM employees around the world. You have been a tremendous source of inspiration and pride to me, and I will be forever grateful for the courage and commitment you have shown as we have confronted the unprecedented challenges of the past few years. GM is a great company with a storied history. Ignore the doubters because I know it is also a company with a great future.

GM Statement on Officer and Board Announcements

GM is announcing the following changes in the corporate officers and the board of directors:

  • Rick Wagoner is stepping down as chairman and CEO, effective immediately. Wagoner, 56, was named president and CEO in 2000, and assumed the role of chairman in 2003.
  • Fritz Henderson, GM president and chief operating officer, will serve as CEO. Henderson, 50, was named to his current position in 2008. He was previously vice chairman and chief financial officer.
  • Kent Kresa, chairman emeritus, Northrop Grumman Corporation, has been named interim non-executive chairman of the board of directors. Kresa became a GM director in 2003
  • GM is awaiting further announcements by the President and the Task Force on Automotive Reconstruction, and we will have additional comments at that time.

“The Board has recognized for some time that the Company’s restructuring will likely cause a significant change in the stockholders of the Company and create the need for new directors with additional skills and experience. The Board intends to work to nominate a slate of directors for the next annual meeting that will include a majority of new directors taking into account the addition of new directors, retirement, and decisions by individual directors not to stand for re-election, although the specific individuals who will be nominated or choose not to run or leave the board are not yet known.”

U.S. Fuel Economy Standard to be raised to 27.3 MPG for 2011

The Fuel-economy standards for all light vehicles will rise to the average fuel consumption limit of 27.3 mpg for 2011 model year vehicles. That is a rise of 8% from the current rule. This new rule was issued today and is based off of regulations using a new system that sets standards for individual models based on their size.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement, “These standards are important steps in the nation’s quest to achieve energy independence and bring more fuel-efficient vehicles to American families.”
This is the first fuel economy mandate set by the Obama administration. Overall, the new energy law will lift standards by about 40 percent by the year 2020 making ALL vehicles average 35 mpg or better.

Considering this, that should ultimately put more Americans to work to be innovative and produce vehicles that actually SAVE GAS! RIGHT???

Mustang engineers adjusted the springs, stabilizer bars and gas-charged shocks to the independent MacPherson front and proven live-axle rear suspension to better balance the ride, steering and handling for all models. Each model feels more controlled for steering and handling, yet retains a good ride balance. Further enhancing the suspension on the GT model is a 2010mustanggtheadonactionleftup01smallstrong strut tower brace that adds torsional rigidity and stiffness to the front. The GT goes where you point it to go with quick reaction to your inputs. With the superb power-assisted rack & pinion steering system you gain confidence with every turn. The powerful new one-piece instrument panel design is crafted in seamless soft-touch TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) skin fully encompassing available genuine aluminum-finish panels. I’m wondering something and maybe you can help me understand this. When a new car is released usually the manufacturer will promote it through commercials, press releases and other various media provided that this car really needs to sell. Now, what about a vehicle that is in limited production. When I say limited I mean only a handful of people on this earth will get to enjoy ownership of such a vehicle. That’s where I am left in the dark with all of the hype and media covering the new Pagani Zonda R. Sure it is a freaking awesome car but why is it some kind of new video or new images on this thing almost every week as if it is the new Toyota Camry or something?

Oh well, I actually enjoy the new media but don’t tell anyone that I am a sucker for supercars. I guess that is why I found myself on supercarmovies.com viewing the latest Pagani Zonda R Official Commercial Trailer Video.
